Applied Vectors
ex) An airplane is flying at a speed of 450 mph at 36 degrees east of north (54 degrees). It then flies into a 75 mph wind from the northwest (-45 degrees). What is the resulting direction and speed of the airplane?
450cos(54 degrees) * i + 450sin(126 degrees) * j
VectorPlane = 264.503i + 364.057j
VectorWind = 53.033i + -53.033j
Then you add the two vectors together.
ex 2) There is 211 lb object suspended by two strings. What is the tension in each string, if the angle is 74 where the two ropes meet? cos angle = mass / T.
Given two different angles, the two y components (together) add up to the total mass that is being supported. But they are going to be different. The distances are equal but opposite (so they are the absolute values of each other).
