The Circus of Respiration, in its broadest definition, in which chemical bonds of humor-rich molecules, such as glucose in cellular respiration, or clowns in the circus of respiration, are converted into the humor which can be used to satisfy the life processes of the audience and performers.

In the Circus of Respiration, the first act that the audience observes is much like the biological equivalent. In the first act, the clown is burned. That is the very first act. Like in the biological process where glucose is burned to release the energy from the bonds, the clown is burned to release the humor-rich bonds.

You could say that the clown was full of hot air. The heat generated from the burning makes glucose break down into a few particles (pyruvic acids, carbon dioxide, four hydrogen atoms, and four ATP molecules) in cellular respiration. The heat generated from the clown, however, gives a cue to the other members of the circus to take over. After the clown runs around in a circle for quite a while, four mimes come out and two take him out back, the remaining two mimes stay with a wheel-barrel, holding on to the clown's burnt clothing. These mimes will represent pyruvic acids for the Circus of Respiration.

At this point, the audience should be calming down from some roaring laughter. The Circus of Respiration calls this a gain of 4ATP, because it's much like a gain of respect for the circus-members. Indeed, once the clown burned himself, respect increased, opposite to what one may think about the entire process.

Suddenly, the lights flash past the mimes and to a large structure in the middle of the ring. In cellular respiration, this would be considered the mitochondria. This large structure doesn't allow the mimes in, they mime-themselves into a loud “aww” from the audience. A man comes out from the side of the ring and announces that the mimes will be let in, but not when they're known as mimes - they have to trick the structure, which has a few guards. In cellular respiration, there would be no guards, and instead a double membrane, but the audience wouldn't know this.

As the mimes enter the structure, the structure unfolds to show what's happening with the mimes. The picture is quite gruesome, and some members of the audience start to wonder if the circus is for entertainment or an organized, industrial solution to The Mime Problem. Inside the structure, the mimes combine their act with a 4-bit actor, which produces a gruesome resulting act, a 6-bit act. It appears quite horrible, as if the mimes do not wish to live any longer as they are combined. They keep on walking, all three of them, doing various mime-related-motions. Suddenly, they come upon The Ferris Wheel. The Ferris Wheel confused the audience, because the actors went through it, but out came 5 actors, but then those are broken down into a mere 4 actors when one guy took the other on his shoulders. This group of 4 actors then reorganizes so that some other guys are holding others. One of the hydrogen atoms in cellular respiration is pulled off by the hydrogen trap, but, for the circus's purposes, the wheel barrel is the trap for more clothing - luckily nobody can see who's or what's under the clothing. One of the mimes goes around in circles looking for the clothing, but finally gives up, and the actors reorganize again, flipping men over shoulders and across and up and down and around and any other possible directions that would confuse the audience.

Finally, the actors reach a circular wring within the circular ring they were already in. They appear quite confused, such as the audience, and they decide to enter the bumper cars - but first they put the burnt (and non-burnt) clothing in the cars. The cars shoot across the circular area and bump on the other side, but in order to come back, it appears the mimes need something. The mimes motion with their hands for more oxygen, and the audience starts to blow. This leaves everybody exhausted and unable to tell what's going on, due to a lack of oxygen in their blood stream, but nobody notices.

Somehow, the laws of physics (or magic in the circus) allow the bumper cars to come back at a very, very high speed. The clothes combine with the air and become … water. It's the mystery of the circus, and non-circus folk are not allowed to know about the secrets of this process. The mimes are shocked by the reactions that take place, especially the high speed of the bumper cars. When the water appears, the mimes and other actors are set on fire, again, and other objects explode all around the arena - at least 34 explosions. Similarly, the audience bursts out laughing - either due to the lack of oxygen, or due to the comedic factors.

The Circus of Respiration continues to confuse and ignore the laws of reality to this day. Nobody knows what happened to the clown. The humor generated from the reactions, in the audience, ended up in causing more audience members to leave tips, which, in turn, lead the circus to continue to operate. But where does the money really go?

The clown could be after you now.
