[Hplusroadmap] more oscomak/skdb/appropedia fodder

today i stumbled upon "cd3wd"[1][2] which i suppose stands for "cd of 3rd
world development educational materials" - apparently it's a howto manual
for (re)building civilization, more or less. I was particularly interested
in the appropriate technology and metalworking sections for integration
with oscomak/skdb, but that's just me.

thanks sleekfreak.ath.cx! ur the best

anyway, this blob of html and pdf is about 13 GB compressed, and that's a
bit more than the 700MB CD in the torrent, so i'm wondering whether i
should spider the (only) complete mirror[3] or not.

and re-seed the complete collection as a torrent.
or should i just leave the whole thing alone and forget about it?

or: most of the data is in the form of scanned, non-ocr'd pdf files.
presumably it could be compressed by a factor of a hundred or so with good
OCR software or djvu. (there are a lot of diagrams) and then re-seeded as
a complete torrent. OCR would be preferable to djvu of course.

it would be neat to actually put this stuff on a wiki where people could
modify, reorganize, etc.. appropedia are you listening?[4][5] alex the
creator/aggregator had in mind what he calls an "offline wiki" which
frankly doesnt make any sense to me at all, so he might be helpful and
friendly to the idea of turning it into a real online wiki but just didn't
have the resources/cluefulness.

[4] i guess so: "ported with permission from various publications,
including some content from CD3WD" but i'm underwhelmed.
