This is what we may be using to build robots next year:

This is the result of only about three days of work, and only a little 
over
a $100 for all the parts so far.  The whole thing is very smooth and it
looks like it's going to work pretty well.  Next step is mounting lead
screws, mounting motors, then electronics!
