engelbart was wondering in 1951 how to best use his intellect for the
betterment of mankind when he realized that an improvement in
collaboration was sorely needed. now, in 2008 we've almost caught up to
his original vision, which included:
- a wiki-like hyperlinked display/editing system
- highly structured text and documents
- realtime videoconferencing/screencasting
- bootstrapping of human intelligence augmentation
- evolutionary project development (optimizing "what next?")
and probably more, but i'm not done watching the original demo yet:

in any case, this is one of the earliest examples i've seen of an
interactive computer system actually being used.
this pokes a tiny hole in my 'everything of consequence happened in 1969'
theory
