Hi Lucy,
Putting together an initial list of practical experiments is a good idea.

My personal interest is in developing and testing cheap, off the shelf
experimental hardware like the $15 pcr machine, or a centrifuge based on a
wheelchair motor or electric drill, or a laminar-flow hood built from a
large tupperware crate and a desk fan, etc. I think we are going to need
cheaper homebrew substitutes for a lot of the typical lab equipment before
we can begin doing many of the interesting wetlab experiments.

The first diybio meeting is on May 1. I'm sure we'll discuss "low-hanging"
experiments at the meeting, and I hope that the list will be able to
brainstorm some ideas to fuel the discussion in the meantime.

For instance, I believe Jason Kelly was doing some interesting work with a
particular moss (P. patens) that was rather simple to grow and manipulate
genetically in a kitchen. Maybe he could share some of his experiences or
ideas for potential experiments.

Happy Hacking,
Mac
