That was a mouthful. Let's try this:

2008-03-17: Ways of rewriting the brain: DNA logic. RNA logic. MEA. MEMS neurochemical delivery (either with onboard synthesis or onboard bacteria to generate the neurotransmitters). Informatocytes (an idea I came up with today) -- have cells have tons of information inside of them, and then have a compression algorithm run to decode the information and stimulate neurons. But then you have to figure out how to make sure that the informatocytes stay in the same place, and I am pretty sure they would have to learn as well to make sure each of them stimulates different neurons and in different places, with enough bandwidth: it may be beyond the ability of neurons to decode binary representation of ASCII which is just language in another form -- although the brain seems to be able to decode photons. Redoing the neural genome -- this works best in the case of self-replication, although it could also work with viral gene therapy as discussed above. Death/rebirth cycles -- use stem cells, kill regions of the brain and replenish with new neuronal stem cells. It would be interesting if you could recompile the brain, after the reverse engineering of biology (knowing that biology is just self-replication and computation).
